2018/2019 batch are sourced from the southern part of Hawkes Bay on the east side of New Zealand's North Island. Hawkes Bay coast can be windy due to the mountains and sea winds, hence the prevalence of shelter belts for the fruit orchards and vineyards for which the region is famous for. The high country is difficult land for farming but the manuka tree is a hardy, scrub-like bush which can thrive in this high country.
The cooler temperatures in the high country mean the flowering of the manuka is later than more northerly climes. This batch was drawn from a late harvest in the 2019 season - December.
Flavor: Faintly nutty with medium sweetness and mild herbal notes.
